Initial biodiversity check
KLARÄLVEN river current situation analysis and practical solutions
Fortum is a leading energy company with operations in 10 countries. The vision “For a cleaner world” reflects the company’s ambition to drive the change towards an emission-free energy system and with an ongoing focus on resource efficiency.
Since Fortum owns large land areas at its facilities, the company asked whether there are ways to manage all that land responsibly.
Ecogain was commissioned to conduct an initial expert analysis on eight power plant dams in the lower reaches of the Klarälven River. The analysis focused on the conditions for biodiversity.
The solution emphasized how Fortum can change its land areas around their hydroelectric power plants, ranging from lawns to forest environments. Ecogain’s proposal provides practical solutions to the ground that will make a difference. Thanks to these, Fortum will increase the biodiversity around its facilities, in line with the the UN’s global environment goals.
